Sweat House

After I had visited the megalithic sites in the Burren area of Cavan, I decided I was so close to the sweathouse here at Legeelan that I would have to drop down to see it. Sweathouses are usually quite difficult to spot, but because the entrance is facing you this one can be easily spotted from the road. There are a lot of theories as to the purpose of sweathouses and also as to when they were first built in Ireland. I hope to add more sweathouses to the web site as I visit more megaliths in and around the Cavan, Leitrim and Fermanagh areas. There are also number of stone cashels in Moneycashel not far from here.
